More than a year after the fall of Bashar al-Assad, images of the former dictator persist throughout Syria, not least on the country's banknotes. On December 30, the country's current president Ahmed al-Sharaa announced the introduction of new notes, which will no longer bear the likeness of Assad or his father Hafez.
