The weather bureau indicated that such fog events are not uncommon during winter in Adelaide. Travellers were advised to check with airlines for updated information, as further disruptions were possible if fog returned later in the day.

The airliner alongside two other international flights due to land before 7.30 this morning were forced to divert to Melbourne, unable to see more than 50 metres ahead of them at the time. You go right down and then very quickly you realise we're not going to make it because you can hear a change in tone and then a shop kind of up. Back on the ground, families were waiting for more than three hours for their loved ones to return home. Hopefully via Melbourne at 11.27 instead of the original 7.25. By 11am, 10 departing flights and 14 due to arrive were delayed. A further nine flights were cancelled altogether. I had to get up at 5.45 and then our flight got delayed for an hour. So we could have slept in another hour. Was there an air of frustration in the planes? A little bit, yeah. While the airlines work to rebook travellers impacted by those cancelled flights, the weather bureau has reassured those flying the worst of the fog has well and truly lifted. We generally see one to two fogs every winter at Adelaide Airport, so it's not uncommon for this time of year. An afternoon wind blowing fog back to the airport threatens more flights this evening, so travellers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight information. For now, a local footy game awaits an eager Emily and her mother-in-law. Really good. We'll get everything done.
