A sheriff's deputy in Adams County, Colorado, is in intensive care after being shot multiple times during a response to a disturbance involving weapons near 74th and Broadway. The incident began around 2:30 AM, resulting in the deputy being shot in a stairwell and a male individual being pronounced dead at the hospital.

Several other individuals were taken into custody at the scene, which was secured by law enforcement. Residents of the Carraway apartment complex reported being awakened by a fire alarm and witnessing a significant police presence, including SWAT officers. Authorities continue to interview witnesses, and a law enforcement presence is expected to remain in the area.

Now we want to get to that developing news out of Adams County. One person is dead and a sheriff's deputy is in the ICU tonight after he was shot multiple times this morning. The entire area of 74th and Broadway was lit up and red and blue flashing lights as you can see here from our Air Tracker 7 Denver 7 Veronica Acosta has been working to get answers into what led up to this shooting all day. Veronica, the Sheriff's Office provided an update this afternoon. What can you tell us? Well, Adams County Sheriff Jean Claps. He provided some really limited information this afternoon. He told us that deputy was shot in at least five different places. He's in the intensive care unit tonight, and that second person who was shot has died. The injured deputy and the male individual were both transported to hospitals where the deputy is stable and still in intensive care, and the mail was also transported was pronounced deceased at approximately 728 AM. Several additional individuals were taken into custody at the apartment complex and the scene was secured. Like I mentioned, Sheriff Claps spoke with media really briefly. He said deputies initially responded around 230 in the morning for a disturbance involving weapons call that was near 74th and Broadway. One person was arrested, then others took off around 5 in the morning. Deputies tried making contact with people matching the description of those who fled. They started a foot pursuit. Now while searching a deputy was shot in a stairwell and two others were found. One was the person who was shot, who later died, and the other was taken into custody. Now I also spoke with people who live at the Carraway apartment complex where this all happened to residents. Told me they were awakened by a fire alarm. They rushed outside only to see that really massive police presence. We're across the street. They sent us all across the street, but before we get there on our way out, all you see is a trail of blood. Once we get across the street, we see SWAT is at the apartment window and we see guns pulled out. The yelling to come out. And that's pretty much all we're seeing. Just first glance, barely getting woken up by the fire alarms. And tonight, Sheriff Claps telling us they're still interviewing witnesses. They do expect a law enforcement presence in that area again, near 74th and Broadway for awhile longer in Adams County on Veronica Acosta. Number seven.
