A 75-year-old woman is dead after an early Sunday morning fire at a mobile home in Crescent Spring, fire officials said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A fire in a Crescent Springs mobile home resulted in the death of a 75-year-old woman, identified by her family as Margaret Talmadge, also known as Marlene. The fire, which broke out in the early morning hours, also claimed the lives of three dogs. 

Family members described Talmadge as a strong and caring mother. The homeowner, Stanley Laycock, reported that he and his mother-in-law were inside the home when the fire started, but there were no working smoke detectors present. The family is now seeking donations to assist with funeral expenses, while authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

The damage left behind by the fire tore down walls and you can see even into the house because of that fire. I spoke to three family members of the 75-year-old woman who died, who told me that she was a good mom and a strong person. When fire and smoke filled the home on Terracotta Street, homeowner Stanley Laycock tells me he jumped into action. Then he says there was a flash of smoke and fire. I was sent security camera footage, which shows the fire start to build around 3.18. Minutes later, the fire appears to spread. First responders arrived at about 3.25 a.m. Crescent Springs FD said no working smoke detectors were visible or sounding. Laycock says he and his mother-in-law were the only ones inside the home, along with four dogs. The family says Margaret Talmadge, known as Marlene, and three of those dogs were lost in the fire. His wife Michelle and her brother now mourning their mother. As the family works to salvage what they can. But hold the memories of a mother's care in their hearts. The family says they will be asking for donations to help with some of the funeral costs. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
