Among them are nearly 1,000 children who are attending school, including Layen Nasser, a 14-year-old who lost both legs in an Israeli bombing and now hopes to build a future in the Emirates. Many of the survivors have been separated from their families, who remain in Gaza, and face ongoing emotional challenges.

While the Emirates has provided safety and education, the right to asylum is not recognized, leaving the long-term prospects for these survivors unclear. Authorities in the Emirates have expressed hope that, if the situation in Gaza stabilizes, the survivors can eventually return home, but for now, their future remains uncertain.

The emirate's humanitarian city in the middle of the desert is currently home to 3,000 survivors from Gaza. Nearly 1,000 children are in education here, right through from nursery to secondary school. Layen Nasser is one of them. This 14-year-old had both legs amputated following an Israeli bombing. Do electrons go in one or two different directions? Only one. Through studying science, Layen hopes to build a future for herself. I prefer to stay here. I'm afraid to go back. I want to try and have a future. I don't want to go back to Gaza. I have no future there. As a disabled person, I can't walk on the ruins. We don't have a home to live in anymore. Zainab Morsi has been teaching Emirati programs to Gazans for two years now. They're doing much better than when they arrived. Layen was very angry and depressed, but with time it's been getting better. Despite her trauma, the teenager hopes to become a businesswoman in the Emirates and participate in the reconstruction of Gaza. Evacuated along with her mother, she lives apart from her four brothers and sisters and her father, who are all stuck in the south of the enclave, in the al-Mwasi camp. These are my seven and eight-year-old sons. I miss them terribly. It breaks my heart that I'm living here in safety, and my brothers and sisters are over there. There are bombings. I'm afraid something will happen to them. We didn't think the situation would be blocked like this. We can't reach out to our family and they can't get out. We've been stuck in this situation for too long. With a fragile ceasefire in place in Gaza, the Emirates hopes to repatriate these survivors if the situation stabilizes. Hello, how are you? The camp director says return is the only option. We all know that the destruction in Gaza is immense. But these children who are here are the future of Gaza. Since the ceasefire was announced, we hope the enclave will reopen and that Gaza will become safe again so they can return to their homeland. The future of these Gazans remains uncertain in the Emirates, where the right to asylum is not recognized.
