A 14-year-old Palestinian boy, Mohammed Nassan, was shot and killed by Israeli forces shortly after leaving a mosque in Al Mughair, a village in the occupied West Bank. The Israeli military stated that the boy was perceived as an imminent threat while running towards soldiers holding a rock. 

The incident took place as Israeli forces entered the village, using live fire, tear gas, and stun grenades. Al Mughair has experienced frequent settler attacks and land confiscations, contributing to ongoing tensions. Since October 2023, over 1,100 Palestinians, including at least 230 children, have been killed in the West Bank.

He attended Friday prayers before being shot, she says. The 14-year-old boy had just left a mosque in the village of Al Mughair, east of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank. Moments later, Mohammed Nassan was shot in the heart. The Israeli military says, quote, one terrorist was identified running towards soldiers holding a rock, posing an imminent threat. It's left a family inconsolable and shattered a community under siege. They stormed the village as worshippers were leaving after Friday prayers, firing directly at civilians and throwing tear gas and stun grenades. They advanced on foot into the village, fatally wounding Mohammed Nassan. He died almost immediately. The valleys here are fertile. Its population of several thousand Palestinians consider themselves as much part of this land as the olive trees that blanket its hills. It's been a target of almost daily Israeli settler attacks that have increased in frequency and intensity in recent years. Nine illegal settler outposts surround the village in every direction. And Israeli authorities have confiscated over 40 kilometers of land around it, cutting it off from surrounding Palestinian land. This represents a deliberate systematic policy designed to forcibly displace residents from their lands. The goal is clear, to drive farmers and civilians from the village, forcing them to abandon their crops and homes under the threat of continued settler attacks. Attacks on this village are a small snapshot of a broader Israeli campaign being waged across the territory. Since October 7th, 2023, more than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed in the occupied West Bank. At least 230 children have lost their lives in that same time. More than 11,000 Palestinians have been wounded in the West Bank since October 2023. Away from the numbers, this is a story about another child shot dead by Israeli soldiers. The pain experienced by so many parents who will never see their children grow up. And the tragedy of knowing accountability has likely died alongside them. Mike Lapple, Al Jazeera.
