Quebecers have been turning to more locally produced alcohol ever since the SAQ took American bottles off the shelves last year.  The SAQ says that the spike in sales is also due to a lack of competition in the market.

Quebec's whisky industry has seen significant growth following the removal of American bottles from the SAQ, the province's liquor retailer. Local whisky sales have more than doubled, with producers like Rosemont from Distillerie de Montréal reporting major increases in both production and sales. 

The SAQ attributes this spike to reduced competition and a market concentrated on Quebec products, as whisky remains less popular in Quebec than in other provinces. While some U.S. products are returning to shelves, local distilleries and the SAQ are working to maintain consumer interest in Quebec-made whiskies as new products are developed.
