A recent study by Economist Impact assessed the resilience of food systems in 60 countries, focusing on their ability to withstand climate change, trade restrictions, and global conflicts. Portugal, France, and the UK were ranked as the most resilient, while Romania and Hungary were identified as the least resilient among EU nations.

The report evaluated countries based on food affordability, availability, quality and safety, and their response to extreme weather. Despite strong performances, even the top-ranked countries scored below 80 out of 100. The study also found that only 15 countries produce 70% of the world's food, with France and Germany being the only EU members in this group.
