They want peace, but they're divided on what that should look like and whether Ukraine should agree to surrender some of its territory to Russia in order to stop the killing. We can simply stop military operations, sign some kind of agreement, but not give up our territories, not sign that we are giving the captured territories to Russia. I understand that many people may lose their homes, but we may lose more if we continue. The discussion should be very simple. Get out of Ukraine. US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with his counterpart, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in Alaska on Friday for peace talks. He's indicated a deal may include territory changing hands. It's very complicated, but we're going to get some back, we're going to get some switched, there'll be some swapping of territories to the betterment of both. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is frustrated at being frozen out of negotiations, and he's been defiant, brushing aside any suggestion of handing parts of his country to Russia. Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupier. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says there's only one man preventing peace in the region, Vladimir Putin. Vladimir Putin can end all this tomorrow. He can just withdraw behind his boundaries of Russia. Russians, too, want to see an end to the war, but there's doubts this meeting between Trump and Putin will achieve anything. They will meet, but they will not come to any conclusion. Putin is a clever man, and he will go for some swapping of territories because he is clever and he values people. Both sides are tired of war, both sides want peace. Will this summit in Alaska mark the end, or simply be a footnote in a drawn-out conflict? In London, Patrick Murrell, 10 News.
