President Zelensky spending part of his Christmas Day on the phone with US officials in the ongoing talks to bring peace to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. International correspondent Will Denslow has the latest. According to reports Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky will travel to the United States this weekend for a meeting with the US President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida this Sunday. This comes after the Ukrainian leader had roughly an hour-long phone call with senior US officials including President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and Special Envoy Steve Whitkoff. Now during that conversation on Christmas Day on Thursday President Zelensky says that they discussed new ideas for formats meetings and timings to bring a real peace closer. There of course has been a flurry of diplomatic activity in recent days and weeks as the Trump administration continues to push to try and get a peace deal done. According to reports we've heard from President Zelensky and his team that say they say that this 20-point peace plan that's been the framework of negotiations is roughly 90% there but as Zelensky saying that what is required is face-to-face meetings with his US counterpart to hammer home those final details. What those are well it's likely to revolve around security guarantees of course so central to Kiev accepting any kind of peace plan going forward. What they're seeking is assurances from both what from Washington here in Brussels from European leaders as well as NATO and these include an article 5 type security guarantee from NATO essentially meaning that an attack on one is an attack on all so expect that to be central to these conversations. Also the issue of potential territorial concessions President Zelensky has opened the door to that saying he'd be willing to discuss the potential of creating a free economic zone in parts of the Donbass region so again we can expect that to be central to those conversations between the US and Ukrainian presidents this Sunday.
