The World Meteorological Organization, a United Nations agency, has stated that humans will need to adjust to more frequent and intense heatwaves as a result of ongoing climate change. This warning coincides with a period of extreme heat across Europe, where temperatures have surpassed 40°C in several countries, including a record 46°C in El Granado, Spain.

Health warnings have been issued across the continent, with at least eight deaths reported in Spain, Italy, and France due to the current heatwave. UN data indicates that more than 175 people in Europe die annually from heat-related causes, and experts predict that future summers are likely to be even hotter. The UN Secretary-General has previously called for global action to address the risks posed by extreme heat.

The current heat wave has already claimed at least eight lives in Spain, Italy and France. We are currently under the influence of a strong high pressure system. This is trapping hot air from northern Africa over the region and as we can see it's having a pretty big impact on the way we feel. In Europe, more than 175 people die from heat-related causes each year, according to UN data. Climate experts warn that future summers are likely to be hotter than any recorded to date. The UN Secretary-General called last year for global action on extreme heat.
