Northeastern United States

Winter Storm Devin is expected to move quickly through the Northeastern United States, bringing a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain. The system will impact areas from Michigan and Ohio to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and parts of New England, with varying precipitation types depending on location.

Significant snowfall is forecasted for the Catskill Mountains and Poconos, where totals could reach eight to twelve inches. Ice accumulation is also a concern, particularly in parts of Pennsylvania, where up to half an inch of ice could cause damage and power outages.

So here's a look at the way Devin plays out. We see that mixed precip coming out of Michigan, moving, kind of skirting across the northern parts of Ohio. Cleveland right now looking at mostly rain with this next system, but Erie down towards say Pittsburgh or just north and east of Pittsburgh is where we have that pink on the map showing that freezing rain potential. Remember, it's gonna cause a lot of travel issues here for your later on this afternoon into the evening timeframe. There's that mixed precipitation with the rain and snow, but for places like New York City and White Plains and Yorktown Heights, it stays cold enough to support snow for the most part, but that rain snow line kind of cutting right across the middle of New Jersey where that could play a role in how much or how little you end up with, and even Boston getting a touch of snow as we head into early Saturday morning before tapering off. So it's a relatively quick mover, but as you can see, it dumps the snow, especially in that lighter purple, five to eight darker purple, right here across the Catskill Mountains down into the Poconos of Eastern Pennsylvania, we could potentially see eight to 12 inches of snow. And for New York City, from the Bronx to Staten Island, out toward Long Island, we're expecting several inches of snow as well. There's your ice accretion kind of backing off a little bit around the Detroit area, but north of there, there is still that possibility up to a quarter inch over here into Pennsylvania, quarter to half an inch of ice, which means we could see more damage and power outages resulting from that.
