According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 12 people, including a two-week-old baby, have died since early December due to hypothermia or the collapse of makeshift homes caused by the weather.

The United Nations estimates that nearly 80% of Gaza's buildings have been destroyed or damaged since the outbreak of war, leaving few options for shelter. Despite a ceasefire agreement intended to facilitate aid deliveries, humanitarian organizations report that the assistance currently permitted into Gaza is insufficient to meet urgent needs for shelter, blankets, and supplies.

Blankets are sodden and sand covers everything. The tents are situated by the seashore in an area prone to flooding. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 12 people, including a two-week-old baby, have died since early December due to hypothermia or the weather-related collapse of their homes. The United Nations estimates that almost 80% of buildings in Gaza have been destroyed or damaged since a war broke out, meaning for many, there's no place to escape the rain. There were 10 people in this tent, the sea flooded us, the children almost drowned. They bring us aid boxes full of insects and worms and tell us to eat. We don't want food, we want blankets, we want things for the children, we want shelter to live in. The first phase of the ceasefire agreement, which took place in October, was supposed to see an influx of aid, including shelters and building materials. But aid groups say that the need in Gaza far outweighs the amount of assistance that Israel is currently allowing to enter.
