Active fires are also being fought in Spain's Avila province, as well as in areas near Athens and Caritea in Greece. In western Turkey, a recent wildfire has been mostly brought under control. Scientists note that climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of heat and dryness, making southern Europe more susceptible to wildfires.

ANOTHER FIRE THAT BROKE OUT ON FRIDAY IN WESTERN TURKEY HAS BEEN LARGELY BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL, ACCORDING TO THE COUNTRY'S AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY MINISTER. SOUTHERN EUROPE HAS SEEN MULTIPLE LARGE FIRES THIS SUMMER. SCIENTISTS WARN THAT CLIMATE CHANGE IS EXACERBATING THE FREQUENCY AND INTENSITY OF HEAT AND DRYNESS, MAKING THE REGION MORE VULNERABLE TO WILDFIRES.
