Recent research involving 20,000 Europeans reveals that many workers across the continent are hesitant to use their remaining annual leave, particularly during the winter holiday season. Financial concerns are the primary reason, with 23% of respondents indicating they need more time to save and plan their budgets before booking trips.

The study also shows that many Europeans are cutting back on discretionary spending, such as clothing, dining out, and luxury items, to manage their finances. Additionally, 12% of those surveyed report being unable to find free time outside of work and home responsibilities, further contributing to the delay in taking holidays.

Why are Europeans hesitant to book their winter holidays? If you haven't used up all your annual leave yet, you're not the only one. Many Europeans are holding off on jetting away for Christmas, even though nearly half still have at least an entire week of holidays left to enjoy. Well, the main reason is it's too expensive. New research on 20,000 Europeans shows that 23% need more time to save up and plan their budget. The highest share of such responses came from Serbia, followed by Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia and Ireland. As part of their budgeting, what are Europeans cutting back on? Around 40% are spending less on clothing, dining out less or skipping luxuries, while 32% are avoiding buying new tech gadgets and 25% won't upgrade their home decor. Others are just waiting for the perfect deal. At the same time, 12% of consumers say they simply can't find any free time outside of work and home life. For the lucky ones who will be taking some leave, the number one desire is to travel to a new dream destination, followed by 10% who want to attend a live show and 9% who plan to enjoy outdoor activities or Christmas markets.
