The FBI is treating the incident as an act of targeted violence, with early evidence suggesting the shooter, identified as 29-year-old Joshua John, left anti-ICE messages on ammunition found at the scene. John was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following the attack.

Authorities report that no ICE agents were harmed. The Department of Homeland Security has noted a rise in attacks against ICE agents and facilities, and has announced plans to increase security at field offices and detention centers. The Mexican consulate confirmed that one of the injured is a Mexican citizen. The investigation is ongoing.

What's known about deadly shooting at ICE field office in Dallas

Well, good morning. This small facility behind me is an ice field office. It's not one of those big detention centers we're used to seeing, but it is plenty busy. Detainees come here to be processed. Other immigrants come here for their regular ice check ins and agents are in here day in and day out. The FBI is investigating this incident as an act of targeted violence. Department of Homeland Security officials say a sniper perched himself on a rooftop and opened fire on an ice field office in Dallas early Wednesday morning. This woman captured the shots while on a video called nearby. Officials say the gunman shot three detainees in a van just outside the building, killing one. No ice agents were injured. Acting ice director Todd Lyons. There was no way he could have known detainees were in that vehicle. He was just indiscriminately shooting, hoping to cause some carnage and mayhem, and it was at an ice facility. Lyons identified the shooter, who was found dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound, as 29 year old Joshua John. Court records in Texas show he pleaded guilty in 2016 on a narcotics charge involving marijuana. Law enforcement was seen scouring homes in North Texas and Oklahoma. Linked to the gunman, the FBI pointed to a possible motive. Early evidence from rounds that were found near the suspected shooter contained messages that are anti ice in nature as the Trump administration has doubled down on immigration enforcement. DHS says attacks against ice agents have increased by around 1000%. Since the president took office, including the bomb threat just last month at this same facility, this violence may also have a chilling effect on immigrants who are pursuing legal status. What does this do to the migrant community in this area? Very scary. I know a number of immigrants are going to be a lot more hesitant to make these check ins to go down to the courthouse. Lyons says his concern is for everyone's safety. One person being killed one too many. We can't have this going on at, you know, ice facilities. We don't know the names of the victims yet, but the Mexican consulate says one of the victims in critical condition is a Mexican citizen now on a social media post. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said that they plan to increase security at field offices and detention centers, and it's something that we have noticed an increased presence here at this office this morning.
