Governor Braun confirmed that the issue was on the agenda for the closed-door meeting and shared his support for the discussions on social media.

Currently, Republicans hold seven of Indiana's nine congressional seats. To initiate the redrawing of congressional maps, Governor Braun would need to call a special legislative session, though legislative leaders have not commented on this possibility. The National Democratic Redistricting Committee criticized the meeting, describing it as a pressure campaign to influence the 2026 midterm elections.

A statement reads in part, the Trump administration's ask of Republicans in Texas and now Indiana is no different from the one President Trump demanded of Republicans in Georgia and Arizona in an effort to overturn the results of a free and fair election.
