U.S. Vice President JD Vance criticized on Thursday Israel’s parliament vote on West Bank annexation during his visit to the country, saying the move was a "stupid political stunt" and that it "confused" him.

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance visited Israel following an earlier visit by Donald Trump. During his trip, Vance criticized a symbolic vote in the Israeli parliament concerning the annexation of the West Bank, describing it as a political stunt with no practical significance. He reiterated that the Trump administration's policy opposes the annexation of the West Bank and stated this stance would remain unchanged.

Vance also met with Israeli military leaders and officials, announcing the establishment of a new military civilian center in southern Israel. This center will host around 200 U.S. soldiers working with Israeli forces and other nations to help stabilize the situation in Gaza.

JD Vance rejects any West Bank annexation by Israel

Following a rather amicable visit by Donald Trump to Israel earlier this month, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has also just visited the country. He, however, criticized a vote taking place in the Israeli parliament during his visit to annex the West Bank. Oh yeah, that was weird. That was weird. I was sort of confused by that. Now, I actually asked somebody about it and they told me that it was a symbolic vote, some symbolic vote to recognize or a symbolic vote to annex the West Bank. I mean, what I would say to that is when I asked about it, somebody told me that it was a political stunt, that it had no practical significance, it was purely symbolic. I mean, look, if it was a political stunt, it was a very stupid political stunt, and I personally take some insult to it. The West Bank is not going to be annexed by Israel. The policy of the Trump administration is that the West Bank will not be annexed by Israel. That will continue to be our policy. And if people want to take symbolic votes, they can do that, but we certainly weren't happy about it. During his visit, Vance also met with Israeli military leaders and other officials. He notably announced that a new military civilian center would open in southern Israel, where around 200 U.S. soldiers are stationed to work with the Israeli military and other countries on the stabilization of the situation in Gaza.

Israeli planes and tanks pounded areas in eastern Gaza on Thursday (October 30), Palestinian residents and witnesses said, a day after Israel said it remained committed to a U.S.-backed ceasefire despite launching more lethal bombardments in the territory.
