Utah is home to over 1,100 native bee species, which play a crucial role in pollination and maintaining the food chain. The Fraser Bee Farm supports agricultural needs locally and across the state, with an estimated 60 million bees contributing to food production and ecosystem health.

The destruction at Beehive State Honey is heartbreaking, but the mood for the Fraser family is also one of relief, because their bees are safe. They're still alive, so we've got to keep working for them. We can't just focus on this, but one thing at a time. And as Dr. Wilson, an ecologist at Utah State University, put it, Utah is a real treasure for native bees, with over 1,100 species, and all play a vital role in our daily lives. In biology, we talk about plants being the base of the food chain, but in fact, many plants don't reproduce without bees. We often think of bees just for their honey, but they are some of the essential pollinators for much of our food supply. Honeybees are just one small piece of Utah's vast hive. Bees are facilitating the base of the food chain. The plants then feed the herbivores, the herbivores feed the carnivores, and they make everything work. So bees are kind of making everything work. That includes in our agricultural areas, and it includes in our wild areas. The Frazier Bee Farm doesn't just meet the agricultural needs of the surrounding community. They send hives out to private lands up to 100 miles away. They were just placed out across the country, across the state, on private lands where they could forage the natural resources. So to us, that was also important, because that's how you get quality honey. The Fraziers vow to rebuild, shifting their immediate focus on the surviving bees and their important role in our community. They've got their work cut out for them, though.
