What the consistent message was from these controllers was, they're not just now thinking about the airspace, and the jobs they have to do in these towers, or tracons or centers across the country. They're thinking about, am I going to get a paycheck? Almost a week in, and the shutdown is beginning to bite. Thousands of federal employees have been sent home without pay, and more agencies are being forced to suspend operations. On Capitol Hill, Democrats and Republicans continue to point fingers. U.S. President Donald Trump insists he is trying to negotiate, even as he accuses the other side of causing the crisis. I am happy to work with the Democrats on their failed health care policies or anything else, but first they must allow our government to reopen. The last major shutdown was back in 2018, under Trump's first term, and lasted 35 days. Now Americans are bracing for another political standoff, and a long wait for a solution.
