Priceless given its place in history, the work, which will be loaned to the United Kingdom in the summer of 2026, will be insured directly by the British government, using its own funds. The amount is record-breaking, nearly a billion euros. The guarantee must cover both the journey from Bayeux to England, as well as the entire exhibition period, which is expected to last more than a year. But a few weeks after the Louvre robbery, there are questions about the security conditions for the transfer. Experts are also concerned about the condition of the work, which is more than a thousand years old. We cannot be reassured by this number. Any figure would have been a little absurd. 917 million euros, yes, why not? But first of all, what would we do with this money if the worst were to happen? We cannot buy back the Bayeux tapestry. It is a unique object, so the loss would be irreparable. Currently still stored in Bayeux, a petition opposing the loan of the tapestry has gathered more than 76,000 signatures to date.
