Canadian music industry expert Eric Alper agrees rules like these are tough to enforce. When demand is high and supplies low, he suggests steep prices are unavoidable. Maybe we all have to start realising that not everybody is going to get to see the show that they want to go see. But musicians hope the changes will get tickets to genuine fans first. Coldplay's manager calling it a game changer. Ed Sheeran's manager saying it was long overdue. Competition experts argue regulations should go even further. With firms like Ticketmaster, who we know is the most dominant reseller and also kind of has vertical integration in that market, it's been really hard for artists to resist their pricing strategies. In Canada, there have been growing calls for lawmakers to take action. The UK tends to be ballsier from a competition standpoint. In Canada, I'm not sure if it's that we're polite sometimes or just have an aversion to any kind of market intervention. Quebec does have a rule capping the price of ticket resales, but it does have some loopholes. Ontario has been considering legislation but hasn't made any concrete changes just yet.
