The president of the Christian Ukrainian Association in Italy told us they feel abandoned by what they call a friendly nation. We feel betrayed by this ally because the reality is being overturned, the blame for the aggression is being given to the country, to the aggressor and not to the aggressor, and let's be honest, now the Trump administration is helping Putin to exterminate the Ukrainian people. And that is precisely what we cannot allow, we must at least express our position. They urged Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni to stand with Ukraine and call for peace negotiations under fair conditions. We are talking about peace, but the steps taken by the American administration do not lead to peace, but to force Ukraine to surrender. It seems to me that even in the Italian language there are two completely different words. We want peace, as Zelensky said, we all say it, but in the name of peace, we do not want to die. The Italian government believes Rome can help reach the gap between both sides and sees Europe's defence plans as key. I believe that Italy has at the moment been more silent than other countries, but has absolutely worked to try to lower tensions, so that Rome can have and will have a role of link between Washington and Brussels, because, as I said before, we certainly cannot allow internal friction in the Western bloc. For a long time, Italy and this government have asked Europe to deal with important issues, and certainly defence, given the extremely particular moment, cannot but be a priority issue.
