Meanwhile, hundreds of people in Greenland's capital participated in a rally supporting Greenland's self-governance and protesting the proposed U.S. control.

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that he will charge a 10% import tax on goods from eight European nations because of their opposition to the U.S. control of Greenland, starting on the 1st of February. Trump said in a social media post on Saturday that Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland would face the tariff and that it would climb to 25% in June if a deal is not in place for, quote, the complete and total purchase of Greenland by the United States. French President Emmanuel Macron responded on social media platform X that tariff threats were unacceptable and that Europeans will respond in, quote, a united and coordinated manner if confirmed. Earlier on Saturday, hundreds of people in Greenland's capital joined the anti-Trump rally in support of their own self-governance.
