The BBC has issued an apology but maintains there is no basis for a defamation claim. Legal experts suggest that while Trump could attempt to bring a case in the United States, there are considerable legal obstacles, and any large judgment would likely not be enforced in the United Kingdom. Trump is expected to file the lawsuit soon.

President Trump is also making waves across the Atlantic. The president says he plans to sue the BBC over how his January 6th speech was edited by one of the British broadcaster's flagship programs. CBS's Hayley Odd of our London Bureau has the very latest on the legal action. Good evening. It's dominating headlines here in Britain. President Trump threatening to take legal action against the BBC. The president at the center of a new media controversy, this time with Britain's public broadcaster. We'll sue them for anywhere between a billion and five billion dollars. The issue, a documentary that aired in Britain but not the United States last year. We're gonna walk down to the Capitol. It edited together two separate clips, over 50 minutes apart, from the speech Mr. Trump made just before the January 6th Capitol riots. They cheated. They changed the words coming out of my mouth. And turmoil at the BBC. Last week, the president threatened to sue the BBC for a billion dollars, unless he received an apology and compensation. And the BBC did apologize, but in a statement it said, quote, "'We strongly disagree there's a basis for a defamation claim.'" Mark Stevens is an international media lawyer. I think it's possible for President Trump to bring a case in the U.S., but again, it's got a number of legal impediments and tripwires. A billion dollars is a lot of money. Would anything like that ever come to pass? It's inconceivable that even if a jury in America found a verdict in favor of the president, a billion dollars, it would never be enforced in this country. The president said he'd call British Prime Minister Keir Starmer this weekend, Tariqa, but he's expected to file the lawsuit next week. Haley Otforsen, London. Thank you.
