MetLife Stadium is preparing for an increased security operation as former President Donald Trump is expected to attend the Club World Cup final. Security protocols, already strict due to the international nature of the event, will be elevated to meet Secret Service standards.

All attendees, including fans, players, coaches, and media, will be subject to thorough screening. Security experts note that the presence of a former president brings the highest level of protection, which is seen as a positive step for fan safety. The stadium has advised fans to arrive early due to the additional security measures.

And MetLife Stadium has hosted plenty of premier events, but the international nature of the Club World Cup provides an extra challenge for security. News 12 New Jersey's Tom Krasnowski spoke with a local security expert about the challenges and joins us now. Tom. And Naomi, security staff is managing 80,000 people tomorrow, and everyone who walks through the gate is getting screened. That includes players, coaches, fans, and well, media too. We spoke with Brian Higgins today. He's a retired chief of Bergen County Police and the founder of Group 77 Security Consultants. He worked at that MetLife Super Bowl in 2014. His staff provided bomb technicians, tactical teams, EMS. Things have changed since then. One case study he mentioned, the chaos last year in Miami when ticketless fans rushed the gates at the Copa America. This year, nationwide at the Club World Cup, fans have observed extra checkpoints and a heavy police presence. Security will be increased even further tomorrow because President Trump announced he'll be attending the match, but Higgins says that's a benefit for fan safety. It's the highest level. So that will bring a completely different level of security. But fans should know that that's a positive, right? The stadium will be secured to allow for the safety of the president. And in this current climate and what we've seen in the last year, I'm sure that the president's security has been increased exponentially. MetLife Stadium is asking fans to be in their seats by 1.30 before that 3 p.m. kickoff. Parking lots open at 10, train service begins at 11, and gates open at noon.
