The announcement follows a call between the two leaders in which they discussed topics including soybeans and American farmers. Trump also invited Xi to the United States for a state visit, which is expected to take place in 2026.

According to Trump's statement, the two leaders emphasized the importance of frequent communication and described the US-China relationship as solid. While Trump's readout did not mention Ukraine or Taiwan, the Chinese readout indicated those topics were discussed. Further clarification from the White House is anticipated.
