E. Jean Carroll has until 11 this morning to respond to the $91.6 million bond that former President Donald Trump posted on Friday. If she opposes the form or amount, a judge will hear arguments this afternoon. The former president posted the bond Friday, with today's deadline looming, and as he appeals the amount that a jury awarded Carroll in January for him defaming her in his denials that he raped her in a department store dressing room in the 1990s. The bond amounts to a promise from the company providing it, Federal Insurance Company, that it will pay if the former president loses his appeal and doesn't pay. In a post on Friday on the website Substack.com, Carroll wrote of her lawyer, Though the illustrious Robbie Kaplan is strong enough to yank a golden toilet out of the floor at Trump Tower and toss it through the window, this bond saves Robbie the trouble of showing up with U.S. Marshals on Monday to do so. At a rally in Georgia on Saturday, one day after posting the bond, legal experts said former President Trump might have defamed Carroll again with these comments. At that same rally, the former president mocked President Joe Biden's State of the Union address last week and the stutter he has dealt with for his whole life. A spokesman for the president said the former president's mocking of others, quote, reveals how weak and insecure he is. And a judge in Georgia this week is expected to rule on whether Fulton County District Attorney Fannie Willis must be disqualified from the case they are charging the former president and others with trying to overturn the results of Georgia's election in 2020. That case, of course, has to do with Willis' deciding to appoint a man with whom she had a romantic relationship as the lead prosecutor.

Prospects for a Gaza ceasefire appeared slim as Hamas reiterated its demand for an end to the war in exchange for the freeing of hostages, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flatly ruled that out.
