President Trump held a meeting at the White House with Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, during which Machado presented Trump with her Nobel Peace Prize plaque as a gesture of gratitude. The Norwegian Nobel Committee later clarified that Nobel Prizes cannot be transferred or shared.

Despite the meeting, the White House stated that the President's position on Venezuelan leadership has not changed, with continued support for Vice President Delsi Rodriguez as interim president. The U.S. also completed its first sale of Venezuelan oil valued at $500 million and seized a sixth oil tanker linked to Venezuela.

Following a meeting with President Trump at the White House this week, Maria Carina Machado presented the President with her Nobel Peace Prize in a framed plaque. The President previously stated his desire for a Nobel Peace Prize for himself. And I thought it was a very nice gesture. And by the way, I think she's a very fine woman and we'll be talking again. Machado appeared to leave the White House with a red swag bag with the President's signature in gold written on the outside of the bag. Despite Machado's gesture to the President, the Norwegian Nobel Committee says once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared or transferred to others. Before the meeting, the President had publicly backed Venezuelan Vice President, Delsi Rodriguez, as interim president over Machado. I think it would be very tough for her to be the leader if she doesn't have the support within or the respect within the country. Now President Trump appears to have softened his tone on Machado, but stopping short of a full endorsement. I had a great meeting yesterday by a person who I have a lot of respect for. White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt says the President's viewpoint on who should lead Venezuela for now hasn't changed. They have been extremely cooperative. They have thus far met all of the demands and requests of the United States and of the President. The President is seeking to remake Venezuela's oil infrastructure and sell millions of barrels of oil. According to an administration official, this week the U.S. completed its first sale of Venezuelan oil valued at $500 million. On Thursday, the U.S. also seized a sixth oil tanker linked to Venezuela.
