Despite the controversy, the visit emphasized the enduring alliance between the US and the UK, with both sides reaffirming their relationship at a state dinner hosted by the king.

In fact, the palace appeared to pull out all of the soft power touches it has. There were carriages, mounted troops, military bands and as much pageantry as the 1,000-year-old castle's grounds could accommodate. All aimed at appealing to Trump's sense of self-importance. Outside the castle, protesters and a few supporters vied to get their competing messages about his controversial visit across. I'm staking my life for Trump because he's our son and we love Trump. The crowds that marched through London in opposition were far larger. These protesters don't like Donald Trump the man nor what they say are his toxic policies. They say this state visit was a bad idea and instead the UK should be opposing him. The fact that he's here and we're honouring him with a state visit just beyond my comprehension. I think it'll inflate his ego even further. He's under some delusion that the world loves him. The U.S. though is Britain's most important military ally and its largest trading partner. You can say that Sturm has managed to maintain good relations with the United States. Though they're from opposite sides of the political spectrum this professor says Prime Minister Keir Starmer has so far succeeded at keeping Trump on side. We of course got what we call a trade deal which is basically a piece of paper that implies we're going to have lower tariffs than the European Union. You think Starmer will probably be quite happy with what he's had to date. This unique and important occasion reflects the enduring bond between our two great nations. The day ended with the king toasting Trump at a state dinner and Trump returning the praise. But this is truly one of the highest honours of my life. Lots could still go wrong.
