The dismissal comes despite bipartisan Senate confirmation of McEntarfer and criticism from statisticians who argue the president's remarks are unfounded and damaging. 

In addition, Trump has outlined new tariff rates on imports from more than 60 nations, with rates ranging from 10% to 41%. The European Union, for example, will see tariffs rise from 10% to 15%. Small business owners have reported increased costs and are adjusting their operations in response to the higher tariffs.

Government data showed 73,000 jobs were added to the US economy last month, fewer than expected. The numbers for May and June were revised downward. Trump's move raising eyebrows on Capitol Hill. Donald Trump has made clear he wants to politicize those statistics. If the president is firing the statistician because he doesn't like the numbers, but they are accurate, then that's a problem. Also this week, President Trump outlined new tariff rates for more than 60 nations, ranging from 10% up to 41%, the new rate starting August 7th.
