Meteorologists are closely watching the southwest Atlantic for potential tropical disturbances that could affect the southeast United States. Two named storms have already been observed, with the possibility of another system developing. While recent rainfall has provided some drought relief in areas such as the Ozarks and Ohio Valley, dry and warm conditions are forecast to return to much of the country, especially in the central and northern regions. The Pacific Northwest is expected to see increased rainfall, while early fall foliage is being reported in the northeastern United States due to a combination of previous cool weather and dry conditions. The Caribbean remains an area of interest for further tropical development as the season progresses.

Trouble in the southwest Atlantic next week

Trouble in the tropics beautiful shot in Bermuda Let's bring them on in the crystal ball Meteorologist Joe Lumber Joe as we have plenty to talk about as we get in the next week But last week we were talking about an area that was going to be getting some much-needed rain. Yep This upper-level low means business and if you look at the big setup with that you're gonna start to pull some moisture from the Gulf America dew points will get into the 60s and low 70s a lot of water in the atmosphere Which means repeated slow-moving shower and thunderstorm activity may not lead to flooding But hopefully this means beneficial rain for this part of the country some doubt drought relief and definitely a downturn in the temperatures And of course Joe we'll be taking a look at the drought monitor here in a little bit here But yep, let's take a look at next week number one story has to be the tropics Yeah, we wrap up September and go into October and we're still not too far away from the peak of tropical season And it was troubled in the southwest Atlantic. We've already got two named storms out there Obviously Gabrielle's going away, but we've got Umberto We may have a melda before too long dry and warm weather will dominate from the Plains states all the way into the north and east It's going to be cooler in the northwest and all done way down into northern California as a series of systems come in from off the Pacific and bring some rain early this season now I look at the 30-day rainfall and percentage of historical averages Obviously these areas in here have seen excessive rains But notice this area here across the Ozarks some places had like five six seven inches of rain over the past week And it was seen that into the Ohio Valley pretty much what we were talking about. We're getting it here the mid-atlantic So you're getting some drought relief, but these areas are still you know in pretty bad shape This was a nice little bump in the road if you will brought some desperately needed rain Unfortunately the pattern that we're going into Bernie Favors a lack of rain an upper-level ridge of high pressure will dominate across the nation's midsection as it does that means day after day After day of sunshine low humidity warm afternoons cool nights the exception to that is going to be the southeast We're obviously we're going to be talking about some tropical troubles as there's a potential for a tropical system to come up and impact Areas from Florida into the Carolinas, but the warm dry weather goes over the top You'll get some of those wet systems coming into the Pacific Northwest Driving around the Northeast Jonah. I've been listening to other people across the northern tier of the United States There's no question that the fall foliage is is a little earlier this year no question about it You remember those cool shots that we had come in in the mid to late August and early September It's almost as if it shocked the trees, and then you combine that with the fact that it's been so dry The leaves just the trees just kind of said that's it. We're done, and they're starting to turn color It's not uniform, but we're seeing good color now across portions of Pennsylvania, New York State into New England And it's not too far from peeking some of these places up here So where it's dry you should have some good opportunity to do some leaf peeping this weekend Joe for weeks We've been saying watch the Caribbean watch the Caribbean watch the Caribbean watch the Caribbean Yeah, watch the Caribbean. You know you like to say underneath the belly of the high Well, it'll be this big ridge of high pressure that builds in late next week across the Northeast and into the Mid-Atlantic Underneath it.
