The collision happened around 10:46 a.m. at 15th Avenue and Bedford Street, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.

A collision occurred at the intersection of 15th Avenue and Bedford Street in Newark involving an NJ Transit bus and a PSE&G utility truck. The impact caused the truck to overturn and crash into a utility pole, resulting in a power outage in the area. 

Fourteen people, including passengers from both vehicles, sustained minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals. Witnesses reported that the bus may have been attempting to avoid another car at the time of the crash. Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause, and utility crews are working to restore electricity to affected residents.

Thanks for joining us. I'm Aisha McKenzie and we begin with breaking news video just into our newsroom right now of an end a transit bus crash in Newark. Take a look. This is video from Citizen app. You can see the chaos here in our news. 12 Chris Keating is at the scene right now. This crash in Newark took place at the corner of 15th Avenue and Bedford Street. The circumstances are not yet clear, but we do know that it involves an NJ Transit bus and a utility truck with PSE&G. This is a look at the intersection right now. It has not yet been cleaned up. You can see how the NJ Transit bus plowed right into the side of this utility truck. That truck was pushed onto its side and crashed right through a utility pole. Because of that broken pole, this entire neighborhood is now without electricity. That will need to be restored. Concerning injuries, we were told that when this crash happened right around 1046 this morning, 12 people were taken off the bus and out of this truck with minor, non-life threatening injuries. A witness tells me a lot of those on board the bus limped off and several had injuries to their face. Everyone was taken away to local hospitals. Concerning what happened here, we talked to some locals who ran outside after hearing a very loud noise. This is what one man told us. A couple people coming off the bus, you know, shaking up, some kids prying on the bus. It was about like six ambulance out here. It was like crazy. A police investigation will now figure out exactly what the circumstances were concerning this crash, but we do have one witness who has told us that the PSE&G truck at the time was stationary. He believed that perhaps the transit bus was trying to avoid another car when this crash took place. As for the power for all those people who live around here, it could be some time before it's restored. That's because not only do they need to investigate and clear this crash, but then the utility needs to get in here and replace the pole and those wires. That's the latest in Newark.
