Bloomberg food editor Kate Crater shared her list of the 13 best dishes she sampled in 2025, reflecting on a year marked by both challenges and culinary innovation. I don't know about you guys but I'm a little hungry so this is something you're going to want to stay around with. We're going to talk food. Carol Master back here on Bloomberg Markets. For those of you watching on TV, you are looking at some of the mouth-watering dishes that my next guest got to enjoy over these last 365 days around the world, everywhere from New York to London and a lot of places in between. She's got the coolest job here at Bloomberg. She is Bloomberg's food editor. She's Kate Crater and she's joining us right now from across the pond to talk about the 13 best dishes from 2025. Kate, so good to have you here. Happy almost New Year. Has it been a good year in food? You know, that's a really good question because you get to like think back on the hundreds of dishes you've eaten and you have the highlights and you think it's been a good year. It's definitely been a challenging year for restaurants. Everybody knows it. You hear so much about it. You talk about rising costs, but there's still, at the end of the day, there's so many highlights. Chefs are doing such a good job. And just across the board, like whether you're talking about something like a butter chicken dish, somebody reinventing the most classic of dishes or some awesome desserts that you can eat right now. I had a Hall of Fame affogato. I swore I would never order an affogato. They're everywhere. They're boring. And yet you have something like that. You have fully loaded mutton fries in London. It has been a good year. All right. So walk us through. I mean, I'm not going to ask you to fix, maybe choose your favorite, but you did say 13 best dishes that you ate in 2025. Talk to us about maybe, I don't know, let's talk about a couple of them. Let's highlight them. We've been showing some pictures. You talked about butter chicken experience that you had. Walk us through that. Yeah, let's start with that. That's at a restaurant called Ada. It's in the East Village. It's unapologetic foods. Indian foods just been magnificent in New York in the past couple of years. And butter chicken is like a cliche dish. You think, why would I get butter chicken? And then at Ada, they make it table side. You get to pick your butters. You get to pick the wood that it's like smoked on. I just, I can't say enough about it. It's definitely a destination dish. Another great dish in New York. I know everybody has walked by the line at Magnolia Bakery. I've walked by and rolled my eyes. But a few blocks away, the place called The 86, which is where Chumlee's used to be, one of the most storied bars in New York City, has become this fantastic little supper club called The 86. And they do an ode to banana pudding. The pastry chef, Michael Romano, has reimagined it. And it's just supersonic. It's got salted caramel. It's got like a homemade vanilla crunch, bananas, whipped cream, all of it. It's fantastic. Yeah, New York's doing really good this year. Yeah, I believe, actually, we showed a piece yesterday. Romaine Bostic and Katie Greifeld spent some time at The 86. So they seem to have a really nice time. One last one to highlight. I'm just, like, my mouth is watering. There's a burger. Chef Jackson Boxer's Limited Edition Dove Burger. Let's do that. What is that? Yeah, you know what? There's only 10 of them. Carol, when you come to London, we'll stand in line. They only make 10 of them a night. It's made with dry-aged beef trimming. So it's no waste, so to speak. They make the doused onions in champagne. There's a little bit of gorgonzola. I think burgers, New York is what does burgers best, and yet, still in London, they're making this burger that you will dream about.
