A three-alarm fire broke out in a multifamily home on 39th Street in Borough Park, Brooklyn, resulting in minor injuries to two firefighters and one civilian. Firefighters responded quickly, bringing the fire under control shortly after 9 a.m., but not before the blaze spread from the cellar to the upper floors and attic.

Residents reported waking up to heavy smoke, and visible damage included broken windows and lingering smoke in the air. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with fire marshals on the scene to determine what sparked the incident.

We're following breaking news out of Borough Park. A three-alarm fire ripping through a multifamily home earlier this morning. News 12's Edric Robinson is there now on 39th Street with what we know so far. Edric, what's the update? Yeah, that's right. We know that two firefighters and one civilian were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries, but take a look. Fire investigators still here at the scene. They've been down this alleyway here, and from where I'm standing, you can look directly into the home through a busted-out window, the smell of smoke still strong in the air. This was the scene earlier this morning. Firefighters on the back deck of a home on 39th Street as white smoke poured out. The FDNY says the fire grew quickly to a three-alarm, crews using multiple ladders extending right into the home. The fire was put under control just after 9 a.m., and this afternoon, the FDNY is saying that that fire originated in the cellar and extended to the upper floors and to the attic. Neighbors say they woke up to the smell of heavy smoke filling the block. Yeah, I woke up to this, you know, my apartment filling with smoke, for starters, so obviously I knew right away there was a fire over here, and checked the citizen app, I checked over here, and it was an inferno. There'd been a couple of issues here before, but nothing on this level, nothing compared to this. And cleanup is underway here. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.
