Thousands of people assembled in Istanbul's Beyazit Square and marched towards Hagia Sophia Mosque to express solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. Protesters called for more humanitarian aid to be allowed into Gaza and urged the international community to take urgent action to address the ongoing crisis.

Participants used mobile phone lights and lanterns to symbolize hope and pressed for basic rights such as food, water, and medicine for Palestinians. The demonstration also reflected broader calls for international bodies, including the United Nations, to take stronger measures and for more countries to recognize the state of Palestine as part of a long-term solution.

Well, protests have been held in major cities around the world with demonstrators denouncing Israel's genocide in Gaza. In Istanbul, thousands of protesters demanded more humanitarian aid be allowed into the strip. Organizers called on the international community to take urgent action to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Sunem Koscioglu was at the protest in Istanbul. Thousands of Turkish citizens gathered in Istanbul's historical Beyazit Square and started marching towards Hagia Sophia Mosque to show their support and solidarity with the Palestinian people and support the Palestinians who have been suffering in Gaza for the last two years because of the Israeli attacks. These people here are trying to show that they want to be a light of hope with their mobile phones lights on, with small lanterns in their hands. They just want to show the world that the Palestinians need to have their basic rights for food, for humanitarian aid. And they believe that because of these huge protest gatherings, the international community will not have any luxury to forget the people who are suffering in Gaza. This atrocity is being committed right before the world's eyes. This brutality is taking place, yet the so-called civilized world remains silent. A world that worries about three whales trapped in the ocean says nothing as thousands of people are victimized and left to die of hunger. I believe that if just a few countries united to open the Rafah border crossing and deliver aid by land and sea, and if a million people marched there, nothing could stop them anymore. Palestinians in Gaza do not have access to their basic needs, which is basically food, water, electricity, medicine. And people who attend this large gathering today in Istanbul, they believe their presence here will at least put some pressure on the international community, maybe on the United Nations Security Council, to take more solid steps against Israel, to stop its oppression. And for the Turkish government, who has been very vocal about what they call an expansionist and genocidal policy targeting Palestinians in Gaza, this is not sustainable. And standing by Israel has become a moral burden for many countries, as Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan says.
