This woman's personal style comes from a completely different time. Her look, her home, her car. Nearly her entire life calls back to a bygone era. Hello, my name is Kitty and I live each day as if it were the 1960s. We want to know all about her extravagant lifestyle, why she loves items others might consider old junk, and find out if she even uses a smartphone. Kitty lives in Gelsenkirchen in western Germany. Her house is furnished from top to bottom like a museum. From the television, record player, to the washing machine, everything is from the past and still in mint condition. I can't have a washing machine from 2025. I wouldn't like the design at all. The kitchen is from the early 60s and I want appliances that match, in terms of design and manufacture year. I really enjoy using them and it's exciting. How does it work? Does it still work? What noises does it make? Does it clean the laundry? So how and when did Kitty's love affair with this era begin? My love for the 60s started with music. When I was little, I was allowed to listen to my parents' records every Sunday on my grandmother's record player. And somehow, through the music and the things I was allowed to watch on TV, for example I got to watch I Dream of Jeannie every day. I fell a bit in love with that era, even as a child. Kitty's enthusiasm for the 60s is also evident in her dressing room. Her closets are crammed with clothes and accessories from that era that have held up surprisingly well. The quality is definitely very good, because you can still wear them even though they're 60 years old or more. The workmanship alone is much better compared to today's clothes. The seams are much wider, which makes it easier to alter them, which I sometimes do. The cut fits the figure well. There are completely different sewing tucks and darts, so different body parts get emphasized. All in all, it's just better. Kitty's retro lifestyle doesn't stop at home. She also drives a 1965 VW Beetle. I always wanted a Beetle. I love this car, and I would never trade it in, no way. Kitty's taken her passion for this era to her place of work. Her salon in Dusseldorf is also furnished with original appliances from the 1960s. In principle, they function just like a new one. They work the same way. It doesn't take any longer. In theory, you can repair anything. There aren't any plastic parts that could break after the warranty expires. So it's repairable. You can restore it. It's just like a car. In addition to trendy, modern haircuts, Kitty and her business partner Jette also specialize in, unsurprisingly, retro hairstyles. Which one do they enjoy more? That's a rhetorical question. Just guess which one we find more fun. No, that's not true. Of course we enjoy doing all hairstyles. It's our passion. But we really do like the old styles, otherwise we wouldn't be wearing it ourselves. Even Kitty's husband, Thomas, fits into her lifestyle. Born in 1965, he's also a fan of 60s vintage style. With a passion like this, you need someone who's willing to go along with it, and who even can inspire you. It would be quite problematic if you wanted to have makeshift furniture, for example. I don't think I could be that tolerant. There's only one thing from the 60s that Kitty can't identify with at all. Vintage fashion, not vintage values. Emancipation reigns here. That is actually true. So it has nothing to do with longing for role models, or even political things that existed in the past. No, we're quite happy to be living in this era right now, aren't we? Kitty does live in the present. She owns a smartphone, and couldn't imagine life without the internet or social media any more than she could without her tattoos. But otherwise, her heart clearly beats for the 60s, and for Thomas, and her poodle.
