In today's Forecast Feed, AccuWeather's Bernie Rayno takes a look at areas of the country that could have snow in the coming days and weeks.

AccuWeather meteorologists are monitoring four potential opportunities for snowfall across the United States over the next two weeks. Current observations show minimal snow coverage nationwide, with only northern New York State and northern New England ski resorts reporting early accumulations.

Two storms are being tracked in the short term, but models suggest limited snow potential due to a lack of cold air and separation between storm systems and cold fronts. Looking ahead, forecasters note that after Thanksgiving, colder air may create more favorable conditions for snow, though significant events remain uncertain and will be closely monitored.

The hunt for snow

And I am on the hunt for snow, and that's what we're going to be covering in the feed today. Not a lot of snow across the country right now, there's a few exceptions here and there, but I'm going to take a look at four opportunities for snow across the country in the next two weeks. I'm not sure if any of them are going to hit, but I do believe as we get toward late November and December, the chances do start to increase across the Plains and parts of the Northeast. I want to take you to the snowfall right now, and this is what I mean, not a lot of snow. Even in the western United States, we're starting to get some snow here in the Sierra, here's the Wasatch and the Rockies. This is below average though, or below historical average. Now the one area that's done pretty well, off to a really good start, we were talking with our Lincoln Riddle, up in northern New York State and northern New England, some snow on the ground in the ski resorts, right now are pretty happy. Now, there's two storms we're going to track in the short range, I don't think there's going to be much snow with these, you can see them on the satellite here this morning. Here's our upper low coming in to California, now this is going to come out in the Plains and weekends. It may be a very similar situation to what we had with this storm that brought a little bit of snow to parts of Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey this morning, that's exiting, we're going to keep an eye on that. This is the storm, it's a bigger one, that'll be coming in for Thanksgiving week, so we're going to start there with those two storms to see if there's any snow with them. Now, at the moment, there's not a lot of cold air, I mean, it goes without saying, if you don't have any cold air, you're not going to get any snow. But just like we had on our Wednesday morning, there could be just enough snow in the northern side of these storms for a little bit of snow. Let me show you the upper map here, so this is what we're looking at. Here are the next two storms, one and two. Now, right now, all the cold air is up in here, you see that? This is what we call a split flow, we have a southern branch of energy that usually has the storms, the northern branch, which is up here, has the cold. Now, when these two meet, that's where you can get snow, and sometimes you can get big snow storms with this kind of a flow, I don't see anything big, but let's watch what happens with this piece of energy and can we get a little cold air to bleed into this. I'll show you the upper map first, because as this comes out, this is going to be as we move into Saturday morning, you see, there's that piece of energy that was in California and look how weak it is. Here's your cold air, by the way, this piece will bring in cold air into the northeast, but do you notice right now, here's the cold air, here's the storm, they're kind of separated. Now that's the European model, the American model's a little stronger with this piece of energy right here, see, it's a little stronger, and it's close, it's close, this cold air bleeds in. You could see if this storm's strong enough, you would have to worry about a little snow, I think, across New York State. Let me show you the surface map with that. So here's the European, Friday into Saturday, watch the green, that's snow, that's rain. See how the storm goes offshore Friday into Saturday? The cold air is way up here, will you see the blue lines? This is cold enough for snow, all right, but that stays across northern New York State. The American model hasn't separated, but you see that Saturday morning, you start getting some of the moisture close to the snow, the cold enough for snow, New York State, northern New England, it's a possibility, probably not going to happen. Okay, now we have our storm coming into California, let's go back, here it is Saturday, what about this upper low, what's that gonna do? Well, that's gonna be lifting northeast, we were talking about this over the last couple of days here. This modeling shows that cold air is starting to come in as we head in toward the early part of the week, you see, here it comes, cold air, here's the storm, but they're still separated. So as this storm lifts north, the cold air comes in behind it, but there's not enough snow, cold air out ahead of it. So let me show you the surface map here. Here's the European model, you see all the green? This is mostly gonna be rain across the Midwest, you notice that? The American model does the same, see, it's all green. So the odds of getting snow with this storm as we get in the early part of the week are pretty slim. I don't think it's gonna happen, there will be some flurries across the Dakotas and the upper Midwest, but not a whole lot of snow. What does pique my interest, though, is after Thanksgiving, I'm gonna stay with the surface map here. Watch as we get into Friday morning, let's say Thursday night, you see what goes on, you see all this blue, all of a sudden, you've got some cold built up here, cold enough for snow. Now the question is, do you have a storm here? You do, it's offshore, and the reason why I'm intrigued, because see, you have a boundary stuck here, this is Thanksgiving night, you have a boundary in here, well, boundaries are locations where storms can form. The question is, can you get a storm to form along this boundary, move northeast, and take advantage of this cold air and produce some snow? I think there's a chance, let me show you why. And it's interesting, let me go back to the upper air map here. Let's go back to Thanksgiving evening. Here we go. Now, watch what's going on. You've got this dip in the jet stream right here, here comes the cold air, and you also have energy coming on down. Let me play this forward, watch, see, you've got this piece of energy trying to come across right in here, right here. This would form the storm, now right now, the trough isn't deep enough. You see, look at that energy Friday morning in here. It's not quite deep enough, so the storm would form and stay offshore, but let's say instead of the trough being like this, let's say it dug a little deeper, and it was like this. And all of a sudden, this energy's down here, it comes up, and then it moves along that boundary, that would be Friday morning. This would be the surface map. Now, right now, it does have a storm well offshore because the trough's not deep enough. But what if everything's a little farther deeper with this trough like this, the storm forms down here, comes up the coast, and then voila, you try to get it across interior sections of the Northeast Friday and Friday night. Is it gonna happen? I think it's doubtful, but it is a possibility, and we're gonna watch it on the feed.
