The government, already facing a fragile coalition and economic difficulties, has seen a key party leave the alliance and is now facing calls for a no-confidence vote. Deputy Prime Minister Surya Wangrungrungit will serve as caretaker while the court reviews the case, with a 15-day period for clarification.

I respectfully accept the court's decision and from this moment I will cease performing my duties. I do not know for how long, but there will be a 15-day period to provide clarification. Court took on the petition from 36 senators accusing the 38-year-old leader of dishonesty and breaching ethical standards in violation of the Constitution. That's after a politically sensitive telephone conversation between Pehtongthang and Cambodia's influential former leader Hun Sen was leaked. In the call, she kowtowed before Hun Sen and criticised a Thai army commander, a red line in a country where the military has significant clout. The fallout has left Pehtongthang's coalition with a razor-thin majority. A key party has abandoned the alliance and is expected to seek a no-confidence vote in Parliament. Her government has also been struggling to revive a stuttering economy and her popularity has declined sharply. Protest groups are demanding the Premier resigns. Deputy Prime Minister Surya Wangrungrungit will take over in a caretaker capacity while the court decides the case.
