A four-man rowing team is training for one of the most prestigious and grueling endurance events on the planet.

Team Seneca Navy, a group of rowers who met at college, is preparing to participate in the 2025 World's Toughest Row, a 3,000-mile race across the Atlantic Ocean. The team is using a purpose-built, solar-powered ocean rowing boat, with two members rowing while the other two rest, and all equipment powered by solar energy.

Unlike many other teams, Team Seneca Navy is not fully funded and has established its own nonprofit to raise money through sponsorships and donations. All proceeds from the eventual sale of their boat and assets will be donated to four partner charities focused on youth development. The team emphasizes teamwork, resilience, and their mission to make a positive impact through this challenging endeavor.

A lot of teams are fully funded. We are not we started our own nonprofit We're raising money through corporate sponsorships private donations at the end of our race We sell the boat liquidate our physical assets and donate all the proceeds to our partner charities The race can take you know, 30 to 40 days for a team of four. It's fully self-supported. It'll just be us out there And it's you know, we row as as one team basically until we finish Yeah, we're feeling good, but it's still just such a It's such a mystery out there right you're in the middle of the ocean You know, none of us have ever been out that far before just the challenge in itself is what drew us to it But It's a no, it's a special sport because you can be the best rower in the world But if the other, you know, four five seven guys in your boat If you're not together with them, then it doesn't matter The passion is the mission of our college where we all met it's to lead lives of consequence It's to use our knowledge skills and abilities to do good in this world And at the intersection of our knowledge skills and abilities is this race and this challenge So that's the vehicle that we're using to make an impact One stroke at a time one decision at a time You don't have to go row an ocean to become a better version of yourself You just have to make the decision right now to pursue a better version of yourself in the moment So I'm sitting in this boat here and I was like wait, why can't I figure that I'm going the wrong way Come on now, I'm totally paddling the wrong direction Anyway, you do what you got to do to get down the river in my case or across the ocean in their case All right.
