Stepping onto centre court carrying local hopes, Alex Dimonor had a spring in his step. The Aussie wasted no time wrapping up the first set in 30 minutes. Dimonor cruised through to win the second set too, although his veteran US opponent wasn't mucking around. Lucky loser Mackenzie McDonald stepped in for the injured Matteo Berrettini who withdrew. The American only won seven games against Dimonor with the sixth seed wrapping up his first round match up in less than two hours. Very impressive start. Historically I've played pretty well here in Australia so I enjoy the conditions, it's quite quick and yeah I mean I've got the crowd behind me as well so it's a win win. His body is now relatively fresh for his next opponent, Serbian youngster Hamed Majedovic ranked 90th in the world. I want more so the plan is to go for more, keep on improving, keep pushing and yeah hopefully six is in my career high ranking. Elsewhere Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime became the first big name upset. The seventh seed blamed cramps for his retirement, a big win for Jordan Thompson in four sets. While fellow Aussie Priscilla Hon needed a medical timeout to deal with a shoulder concern. But her Canadian rival also battled cramps.
