Warm aside, the return of Steve Smith meant something had to give in Australia's struggling top order, the short straw landing, as expected, with Josh Inglis. We wanted to give the top three in particular a decent run at it because over the last couple of years it's been the toughest place to bat so you want to get a decent look at that before you absolutely stick with it for a longer time or you feel like you need to make a change. While Smith will re-assume his place at number four in the batting order, he won't be seen in the sleeps. Treading carefully amid a risk of re-injuring his finger, the former skipper will likely find himself at the fielding outposts of mid-off and fine leg. We'll see how we go. See if he lasts a few days out of fine leg, I reckon he'll be itching to get up in the circle pretty quick. Marnus Lubbershain remains with the group but on the outer. The dumped batsman will be there for the second test but could be released thereafter. I think they're still kind of, I mean obviously, you know, you still need some concussion subs and things like that so yeah, no decision I think is made yet given another few days.
