The FAA says the restriction infected departing flights for Oakland. But since the federal shutdown started nearly four weeks ago, the FAA warned about disruptions at airports due to staffing problems. Air traffic controllers are required to work unpaid when the government shuts down, and they don't get paid until Congress agrees on a budget. The ground stop was lifted at around 10 30 yesterday, and passengers scrambled to check their flight status. We sat in San Jose on the tarmac forever, and so we were delayed a long time. I think it's, you know, quite understandable because people are working long hours and then they are not getting paid. They don't have gas. They don't have food and just people. Sometimes they give up. This isn't just happening at L. A X. Airports across the nation are seeing staffing shortages at their air traffic control towers during the shutdown, and the U. S secretary of transportation says the problem is getting worse as more air traffic controllers are calling in sick.
