There was a moment when we could no longer get out. We grabbed wet rags because we couldn't even breathe properly. Then we got in the car and left. The fire has been surrounding everything. It's very strong. I didn't expect it. We were terrified. Smoke from the fire wafted over Madrid, which is just some 50 kilometers away, leaving large clouds of smoke and an orange sky over the city. The wildfires in Spain are just one of the latest blazes across Europe. Another wildfire near Marseille also broke out. Nearly a thousand firefighters contained the blaze, but it comes just a week after a separate fire had reached the city's outskirts. Scientists at the EU's Copernicus climate service say that Europe is the world's fastest warming continent due to climate change. It's making blazes more frequent and intense because of drought and high temperatures.
