Meteorologists are warning of severe weather conditions as heavier rain and scattered storms move through Kansas and Missouri, with the system expected to progress into the Northeast and Southeast. The forecast includes strong thunderstorms, especially from Friday into Saturday, with significant rainfall increasing the risk of flash flooding.

A tornado risk level of three has been issued due to strong jet energy and wind shear in the affected regions. Storm cells are expected to develop over the Mississippi River Valley by Friday afternoon, with widespread rain moving eastward on Saturday, though the severity is predicted to decrease as the system advances.

You've got some heavier rain here into Kansas on into Missouri and you will see some of those scattered storms on the tail of this system. That's going to be coming through as we head into the afternoon and the evening hours it makes its way into the Northeast. Notice how it continues in the South through our Friday morning. So we're going to continue to see those stronger thunderstorms here into the Southeast and things will get more rambunctious. Saturday, Friday into Saturday. By the way, a lot more rainfall is coming into the picture as well, so that will be another threat. There is a torque of rain. There is a torque on of three. As I mentioned, we do have very strong jet energy coming into this area, so there's a lot of winds at different layers that are going to excite the atmosphere. This is as we head into Friday afternoon. You see the cells are developing essentially right over the Mississippi River Valley and then of course as we head into Saturday. We're going to see more widespread rain. Everything moves East. It's a little less severe for us here, but we still have that threat coming in.
