Meteorologists are tracking a series of weather systems originating from southeast Alaska that are expected to bring severe storms to Arkansas and nearby states. The first system will move through the region on Thursday, with a risk of damaging winds and hail, particularly in Arkansas, southern Missouri, and northeast Texas.

A second round of storms is forecast for Friday, with the risk area shifting eastward to include far east Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and western Tennessee. The threat of severe weather is slightly higher on Friday, though still below the levels typically seen in peak spring months. Some areas farther north may benefit from drenching rain, while snow is possible on the system's backside in the plains.

want to bring in Jeff breakdown exactly what to expect and where all this is coming from. Yeah, this is coming from an area of far southeast Alaska. So Juneau Alaska, we're talking to Bernie earlier about this, how we had our snowiest December in the record books there in Juneau, second snowiest month of all time. The only month that was snowier in Juneau than last month was February of 1965. Uh, and here we are in Juneau right now and actually turned a little milder, getting some rain with the current pattern. This next system, uh, really this Pacific pipeline coming in from the northwest is hitting areas around Seattle and Portland quite a bit. But another system is rolling into the eastern part of southeast Alaska here. Uh, and overall, we got a storm track that's active in the northwestern U. S. Another storm track all the way down to the south. This is kind of a quieter one, just brushing areas like southern California, a couple of showers. But the southern disturbance that rounds the base of California comes back up into the four corners region, and this is going to interact with some of that northwestern energy to bring some widespread snow into an area where we haven't seen a whole lot yet. This winter, we've had a good start to the snow season in the Sierra, certainly in the Cascades as well. But we have really been lacking in Arizona and parts of Utah, New Mexico. It's just been dry here, and we have had moisture around. We've been dealing with higher snow levels and not as much snow. So we're gonna be dealing with some decent snow there. You can see how this plays out. Our first storm system swings down south of California. Here it comes into the desert southwest, and then energy from the northwest comes in right behind it. Initially, that southwestern storm outruns the bulk of the moisture from the northwest. This is gonna bring us our Thursday severe weather risk down into parts of Arkansas and into parts of western Tennessee. As that big plume of rain slides farther north, the severe risk could be limited down to the south. But then additional moisture and energy coming in from the southwest is gonna energize this second round on Friday. So here we are into Friday morning. Watch Friday afternoon. Jet stream energy feeds into the backside of that. We get into some more rain and thunderstorms. Some of these could be severe. In fact, Friday's severe risk is actually a little greater than Thursday's. We're gonna categories both of these as a some risk for now, but things are gonna become a bit more active, drenching rain farther north. Some of these areas have actually been dealing with dryness, so we could take that and run with it. And on the backside of this, there is gonna be some snow, a little zone of snow here into the plains. And Anna's talked about the warmth and the rain coming to the northeast. So overall, this Thursday severe risk area, it's geographically kind of large. It includes Arkansas, southern Missouri, northeast Texas. Damaging wind and hail are the main concerns here. Moving into Friday, we take it about a half of a state, maybe two thirds of the state east, far east Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, western Tennessee. And here the risk might be a little greater than the previous day, but it's still mainly kind of on the lower end of what we might compare to some April and May events down this way. We need to keep an eye out for damaging wind and hail. Anna.
