Severe storms are affecting parts of the southern United States, bringing the threat of large hail, heavy rainfall, and localized flooding. Hailstones reaching two inches or more in diameter have been reported, with the greatest risk areas identified by meteorologists.

The storm system is moving from Texas through northern Louisiana and into Mississippi, with Houston expected to see intense storms later in the day. There is also a low but present risk of tornadoes, and residents are encouraged to stay weather aware as the system continues eastward.

What kind of threats are we looking at? Well, we're going to be seeing some pretty big hail. We already have some really intense updraft strengths this morning. Two inch hail or greater in diameter, that's the size that actually creates the dents on your hood, all right? And maybe potential problems on your rooftop, especially if you've got a metal roof, it's just going to make things very, very loud. And that hash mark area gives us the best probability of that. But technically speaking, we could see hail within the life cycle of this storm system. Torque on value of three, all right? Technically two and a three, which means it's not zero. The scale goes out of 10, so it's on the lower side. But the problem is, anytime there's a risk, we always tend to see tornadoes spin up, all right? And if you just take a look at what that means, it means you just need to be weather aware. There's timestamps at the top part of your screen, so you can kind of get an idea of when all of this will evolve in maybe your neighborhoods. Notice we do get some isolated activity between Austin and San Antonio. So think of places like Texas State, now towards San Marcos. You guys can maybe see some skies go dark a little bit. Most of the big intense rain will be to your north, and you can see it all filling in into northern Louisiana. We'll then see it eventually shift into Mississippi going into tonight. Also, if you're in Houston, you will get it later in the day on the tail end of that front, once it arrives there in the Bayou City, where we get some pretty intense storms through the evening hours. And then tomorrow, we'll be tracking this thing as it heads eastward.
