While some were fast and others ran for charity, very few managed to complete the City2Surf in Sydney with dry feet. Long-held records were very nearly beaten as participants pounded the bitumen for 14 kilometres between Sydney's CBD and Bondi Beach.

Sydney's annual city to surf event saw participants contend with rainy weather as they raced from Hyde Park to Bondi Beach. Isaac Hayne was the fastest male finisher, completing the course in 40 minutes and 33 seconds, narrowly missing the record. Bronte Oates was the first female to cross the finish line, expressing excitement at her achievement. 

Many runners took part to raise funds for charity, with stories of personal motivation, including participants running in memory of loved ones or while battling illness themselves. Since fundraising began in 2008, the event has generated almost $60 million for various charities, highlighting its ongoing community impact.

Runners brave wild weather for City2Surf

In a sea of those soaking wet and those soaking up the atmosphere, they set off. Released in waves, participants raced to the beach. For some, it was their first city to surf, others knew what they were in for but were prepared to do it for a good cause. Those who had all the running gear beside those who had no fear. Roughly halfway, runners started climbing the soul-destroying, aptly named Heartbreak Hill. 40 minutes after starting, the fittest and fastest finished first. At a run time of 40 minutes and 33 seconds, Isaac Hayne missed breaking the record by half a minute. Still he was speedier than last year. Yeah, look, that's a sign I'm in shape. That's really promising. Yeah, maybe the record can wait another year. Five minutes later came Bronte Oates, the first female to cross the line. It's crazy, I've always wanted to win. I'm so excited. From the city to surf, one and done, next was those in chase of their own records. It's a bit of a warm-up, excuse the pun. I'm trying to break the world record for the fastest marathon. As the runners streamed across the finish line, so did the clouds roll in. I've done lots of them. Not many rain. So this is about my fifth wet one in 25, 30 years. You know, it was a bit soggy. It's cooled me down at least. The rain mixed with sweat and with tears. Fundraisers never once forgot why they'd put themselves through the pain. Awesome event out there today, guys. My young daughter, Tylee, from brain cancer. So I'm doing it for her. In the midst of his own battle with brain cancer, Professor Richard Scoglia raced and raised funds for Chris O'Brien Lifehouse. I'm very proud that we got through that distance and yeah, hopefully help raise the profile importance of trying to cure future generations of cancer patients. Since fundraising totals were first tallied in 2008, almost $60 million has been raised for different charities. Waseau Chapel is from Kings Cross to Bondi where they have both centres and it really sums up what Waseau Chapel does. This city really needs help at the moment so I'm running for them. All runners, joggers and walkers have to cross the finish line by 2pm. Some of them there sore, a little soggy, but most are so happy to have done it and are ready for part two of the day.
