The final full moon of the year, called the cold moon, will be visible as a supermoon on the night of December 4-5. This event coincides with the arrival of arctic air across North America, which is reflected in the moon's seasonal name.

As a supermoon, the cold moon will appear slightly larger and brighter due to its proximity to Earth, known as perigee. The moon is also referred to by other names such as the winter maker moon, the long night moon, and the little spirit moon, alluding to the season's chill and extended nights.

The night of December 4th into the 5th, we'll see the last full moon of the year, called the cold moon. Its name comes from the arrival of arctic air across North America, perfect timing for the winter chill that many of us are experiencing right now. And this one is extra special because it's a supermoon, so you could call it the super cold moon. That happens when the moon is at its closest point to Earth, which is called perigee, and it makes it appear slightly bigger and brighter than usual. It's hard to notice with the naked eye, but when it rises above the horizon, an optical illusion makes it look even larger, which makes it perfect as a backdrop for seasonal photos. Now, this moon also goes by other names, the winter maker moon, the long night moon, and the little spirit moon, so pick your favorite, I guess.
