Several House Republicans want to see the name Trump in big bold letters at the most prominent International Airport in Washington DC's area. They want to change the name of Washington Dulles International Airport to Donald J Trump International Airport. That's got a ring to it but right now those seven House members are in on this both sponsors and co-sponsors. Congressional correspondent Nathaniel Reed live with us from Capitol Hill. Nate is this bill gaining any traction among the House GOP? Well look this bill is successful in one regard. We're talking about it right now. This bill is not going to pass in the House the Senate and most certainly not going to be signed into law by President Biden. Even if this bill were to pass the House would require the support of every single House Republican. Remember they have just a one vote margin in the coming weeks meaning they can't afford to lose pretty much anyone except for one Republican vote. This bill is not a major priority it's unlikely to receive a vote. That being said it's fairly simple if you take a look at the bill itself it just says the Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia shall after the date of enactment of this act be known and designated as the Donald J Trump International Airport. The elite sponsor of the bill representative Guy Reschenthaler the Republican of Pennsylvania saying in a statement quote as millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport there is no better symbol of freedom prosperity and strength than hearing welcome to Trump International Airport as they land on American soil. Here are the obstacles here I just mentioned the House of Representatives the Senate it's held by Democrats they're not likely to approve this furthermore there's the filibuster rule you need 60 votes on legislation in order for it to pass and go to President Biden's desk. This bill is not going to have 60 votes that would require Democratic and Republican support not even all Republicans necessarily have said that they're going to endorse former President Trump in the 2024 election. Finally the president's desk there is no love lost between President Biden and President Trump there's absolutely no chance that the president would sign this he would most certainly veto it it's not even going to make it to his desk. I want to note that the area around Dulles International Airport is represented by two Democrats one of them representative Jerry Connolly saying in a statement quote Donald Trump is facing 91 felony charges if Republicans want to name something after him I'd suggest they find a federal prison. And that is where I will leave you tonight folks this is not going to happen there's no chance of passing and it's pretty much dead it successfully generated headlines but I don't think we're going to be flying out of or into Donald J Trump International Airport anytime soon.
